Hi eveyone,

My name is Izaak and I'm from Australia.

I'm going to be moving to Groningen in 2019 and am putting the feelers out for information, ideas and experiences in the sport for Airsoft.

Currently 27 and a sports enthusiast. Airsoft seems like a way to fill my adrenaline craving since I no longer LARP.

I will be keen to look for groups to play with in 2019.

Welcome on the forum Izaak, and in advance welcome to the Netherlands :)

And for information regarding to airsoft you hit the right spot, although we are a Dutch based site. You can always ask your questions and discuss in English.

What kind of info are you looking for? Playstyle, loadout, general info/rules that are applied to the sports?

A chart which depicts all the airsoft fields (as far as I'm aware off) in Groningen and the Netherlands:
https://www.airsoftclubnederland.nl/airsoft-in-nederland/airsoft-locaties-een-handig-overzicht/
And I can tell, Outpost is a very nice outdoor airsoft field, with here and there CQB envoriments due to the bungalo's that are scattered throughout the terrain.

Oh and before you start going nuts and buy loads of gear, you can join an event as an intro. That means you lend gear/gun and play without having actually pay the yearly contribution (can only do that 6 times in a year) and get a feel if the sport is fit for you :)

Cheers

Thanks Robin, that is a great start.
Things I would like to know:
How big is the community roughly? I'm sure each field has its local player base.
Do most fields play only on weekends?
Are there Milsims in the Netherlands?
What is the fps limit for most outdoor fields here? Is that field specific?

It's great to be able to play 6 times before I have to register with the firearms association. Sorry, I forgot its name.

The Netherlands is small relative to pretty much most countries, but especially relative to Australia. So local player base doesn't say much considering people still come to fields that are 2 hours away. Pretty much all fields do weekend only, some have week skirms in the evening but those are mostly CQB. There are now and then some simulation games but not super often. FPS limits are:

360 FPS for pistols, shotguns, anything with full auto
450 FPS for DMR's
500 FPS for snipers and DMR's with 2 sec delay

Still for DMR's it can vary a lot per field so always check the local rules.

And yeah there are Milsims/Tacsims where it is more based around a story and goals instead of Team deathmatch and only going for kills. Neighbouring countrys host quite a few Milsims too. So in that regards no shortage

Welcome Izaak,

Nice to see you taking an interest in airsoft. I see many people already gave you some pointers but I have some to that might be of use to you:
- I saw that someone already quoted the current fps rules for you but it is worth pointing out that January 1st 2019 the rules are going to change: Instead of measuring fps we are going to switch to measuring joules. Also the standard weight for the bb to do the measure with is going to change to 0.3 gram (instead of 0.2 as it is now). On the site of the NABV you can find more information about this.

- Here in The Netherlands we aren't allowed to use grenades of any kind that looks like an explosive. In practice this means that virtually every grenade made for airsoft (and offcourse real ones to ;)) is illegal. There are a few exceptions: The AI tornado WITHOUT spoon (no longer in production, but you may encounter them for sale and in game) The Avatar grenade and then recently there were 2 (of the same manufacturer) but their names are terrible to remember.
It's worth to note that so called moscart or shower shells that are used in the 40mm launchers are also regarded as replica's of explosives and are also currently not allowed to be owned and/or used on Dutch soil.

- Seeing you are going to live in Groningen means you are also pretty close to the Dutch/German border and as such you might be tempted to go visit an event in Germany and so it might be handy to know that the laws regarding replica's are a bit different there and are pretty strictly enforced:
= The replica must have a few markings. They are: the caliber 6mm bb, a F enclosed in a pentagon, the name of the German importer.
= It is also forbidden to mount a light and/or laser on your replica. To be even more precise: even owning a light or laser that is made ready to be mounted on a weapon is illegal.
= Replica's may not be capable of shooting in full auto when the muzzle energy is above 0.5 joules

Hope to see you on a field someday and even if not I wish you a very pleasant life here in The Netherlands.
